Learn how to delete all music from your iPod using iTunes, either through manual management settings or by removing tracks from the library with default settings.

No matter how big your iPod's memory capacity is, there will come a time when you need to remove some music to make room for new tracks. Here are the steps to remove all the music files from your iPod.
- Make a backup. Before removing all music from your iPod, it is wise to back up the songs you wish to delete. Connect your iPod to the computer it was synced with using a USB cable. Once securely connected, run the iTunes program. Select iPod in the source list on the left side of the menu. Then, click the Music tab to view the music listings on your iPod. Copy and paste the selected tracks onto your computer. It is advisable to create a folder for these backup songs if one does not already exist, so your music library remains well organized.
- Adjust the settings to manually remove songs. To do this, your iPod must be set to 'Manually manage songs and playlists.' If it is not yet configured for manual management, run the iTunes application again. Select iPod from the source list. Then, choose the radio button labeled 'Manually manage songs and playlists.' Finally, click OK to save the new settings.
- Manually remove songs. Once the manual setting is enabled, you are ready to remove all music from your iPod. Access the source list and click the iPod icon. The list of songs will appear. Select all the songs you wish to remove by highlighting them and pressing Delete on your keyboard.
- Automatically remove songs. This can only be done if your iPod is configured with default settings. Simply run the iTunes application. Then, select all the songs you want to remove from your iTunes music library. Finally, press Delete on your keyboard. Note that with default iPod settings, once you remove anything from the iTunes music library, the deleted files are automatically removed from the iPod as well.
Now that you know how to free your iPod of songs you've lost interest in, all you need to do is make a new list of fresh tracks and start copying them onto your iPod.
