How to Program a Sylvania VCR

Learn how to easily program your Sylvania VCR to automatically record your favorite television shows with this step-by-step guide.

If you still have a VCR, you can use it to record your favorite TV shows. One of the most popular VCR brands is Sylvania. If you own this type of VCR, here are the steps you need to follow to program the player to record certain shows automatically.

• Connect. Start by connecting the television set to the VCR. Make sure you connect both the audio and video cables. They are usually color-coordinated, so you simply need to plug the matching cords into the corresponding slots on both the VCR and the TV.
• Adjust the TV. After you have finished connecting the two components, the next step is to adjust the TV set to the appropriate channel setting. Depending on your TV, you will usually need to set it to channel 3 or channel 4. Afterward, turn on your VCR.
• Select language. Now that your VCR is turned on, you need to select the programming language, especially if you have never programmed the VCR before. To do this, simply press the Fast Forward button. Pressing this button will display a list of available languages. Choose your preferred language by pressing the Play button.
• Auto setup. Once you have set the correct language, you will need to put the VCR into auto setup mode. To do this, press the Fast Forward key once again. The VCR will automatically search for all active channels on your television. These channels will then be loaded into the VCR as the list of television channels you can choose from and program the VCR to record later on.
• Time and frequency. Next, use the VCR remote control to press the Menu button. Once you have entered the menu, change the clock setup by pressing the Timer Programming button on your remote. This will open a new screen showing the clock setup. Simply set the time you want the VCR to start recording. You can adjust the time by using the Stop and Play buttons. You will also have the option to set the frequency of the recording. For instance, you can record the program daily, weekly, monthly, and so on.
• Choose the channel. Finally, choose the channel you wish to record. Press the Play key to exit the clock setup. Then, navigate to the channel that broadcasts the program you want to record. Once you reach your channel of choice, select it by pressing the Fast Forward key.

Make sure you leave the VCR turned off so it can automatically record the shows at your preset times. Also, ensure the power cord remains plugged into the power source and that a blank tape is loaded in the VCR.
