Backup and Restoration of Database with Multiple Files
Backup and restoration of a database with multiple files
To restore the backup file backupfile.gbk to multiple files (database1, database2, database3, etc.), try:
gbak -R backupfile.gbk database1 size database2 size database3 size
Here, size means the number of pages. The page size may be 1024, 2048, 4196, or 8192 (default is 1024).
Don't worry about the count of database files when backing up.
Note: If you expect that the .gbk file will be too big for the operating system, use gsplit to have a backup in separated .gbk files:
gbak -b databasefile.gdb stdout | gsplit -split file1.gbk size file2.gbk size
Here, size means the size in megabytes. Then, to rejoin the backup files for a restore:
gsplit -join file1.gbk file2.gbk | gbak -R backupfile.gbk database1 size database2 size database3 size
